Homemade No-to-low-suds Laundry Detergent Recipe

1 cup Oxi Clean

1 cup grated bar soap

1 cup Borax

1 cup Washing Soda



For the bar soap I use Zote but you can also use Kirk’s Hardwater Castile, Sunlight bar, Ivory, Fels-Naptha or any non-perfume soap.

Measurements may differ with amount of water depending on how hard your water is.

This will be a trial and error testing tome to find out how much soap to water you need. Do not use aluminum pots to melt soap.



In a pot on the stovetop put one gallon of water on high setting add finely grated bar soap and stir until soap is melted. This will only take a few minutes with the zote soap. Take off burner and put into a bucket.

Pour the Oxi clean, borax and washing soda and stir well until all is dissolved.

Now add two gallons of water and stir every hour for four hours, to prevent slow gelling.

Pour into a few empty liquid laundry detergent bottles or other plastic bottles. I use empty vinegar and water bottles.

Use ½ cup for each load of laundry. Shake the soap each time you use it because it will gel.
